Mattie is a very friendly, calm filly. In the stable yard and in hand she's the most well behaved two year old her grooms have ever seen. She will grab your shirt sleeve if you walk within touching distance, and she's sure to give you a once over to make certain you don't have any cookies hiding in any of your pockets. You can either find her napping, or nibbling on the barn cat's ear. She's easy going and doesn't spook at much, but baths? You can forget baths. Or water, or mud. Heaven forbid it's rained that day before a race, you might as well scratch her as soon as there's a chance of rain. Mattie is a prissy pony, hates to get her toes wet.
She's a come from behind sprint kinda girl. It takes a furlong or two for her to get in the groove, and once she does she moves through the ranks as pretty as she pleases. She's a dream to load in the starting gate, and prefers dirt over turf. She also prefers men over women, which is strange, since a woman is the only one that has ever owned her. Her favorite person is obviously her new groom, Keenan, though she also seems to enjoy the presence of her main jockey, Danny. She will behave if a woman tries to ride her, but she doesn't get that connection that she wants. Without that connection she doesn't race as well, or listen as well for that matter.
